If you don’t want to hassle with going to Walgreens (sometimes they’re funny about adjusting coupons) you can always take your Walgreens ad to Walmart or Target and ask for a price match!  It is very clearly stated in the Walgreens coupon policy that they should adjust the coupon to give you the item FREE, but whether they will do it or not is totally up to the store manager.

If I head to Walgreens this week i might try to see if they adjust the coupon down, but if I don’t make it that way i’ll give Walmart a try. (as much as i hate to go there lol) I’ll let you know how it turns out ;)

Thanks to Charlene over at My Frugal Adventures for the heads up on this great FREEbie!

Walgreens Register Rewards Q&A

Here is a list of Walgreen’s Register Rewards Questions from a few readers. I tried to answer them to the best of my ability. If however your still confused, shoot me a message and i’ll be happy to explain the RR process to you.

What are Walgreens Register Rewards?

A  Register Reward or (RR) is a coupon that prints out of a machine (like a catalina) after your done paying. It will ONLY print a RR when you have purchased a certain item that Walgreens is offering a RR deal on.  You can use the RR to buy ANYTHING in the store except Tobacco and Alcohol.

Does Walgreens have a coupon policy?

Yes they do! You can go here to print out a copy and i recommend keeping it with you when you shop.

How do I know what deals are RR deals?

Walgreens weekly add found in-store, online or in the sunday paper will have all the weekly and monthly RR deals in them.

Do I need a special card to do Register Rewards?

NO you do not need a special shopping card.

Why didn’t my RR print?

If you ever have a problem with the store not printing your RR, save your receipt and call Walgreens Customer Relations at: (800) 925-4733.

Does Walgreens allow coupon overage?

No they do not, if you have a coupon for more than the price of the item, their policy is to adjust the coupon down.

Can I use more than one RR per transaction?

It really depends on the store and the manager. I personally at my store have used multiple RR per transaction.  As long as I have the same amount of coupons as I do products they are ok with using multiple RR to pay. That’s why you’ll sometime see me say buy a filler item. (a small candy bar or something not to expensive to keep your cost down)

When does a RR expire?

The expiration date is printed on the RR just like a coupon and  is usually good for 2-3 weeks. Just make sure you don’t forget to use it before it expires!

Can I use a Register Reward to buy the same item again?

NO! If you do this the RR WILL NOT PRINT! If you decide you want that same product again you’ll have to use a different RR from another item or pay cash. (you can still use manufacturer coupons)

Can I use a Register Reward to buy a different Register Reward item?

YES, You can use any RR you have earned as long as you use it on a different product than you purchased when you earned your RR.

Can I purchase more than 1 item that a RR is being offered on in the same transaction?

NO, if you purchase more than 1 item that’s a RR deal in the same transaction you’ll only get 1 RR. Walgreens only allows 1 RR per item, per transaction. To get around this, just make sure you purchase it in a separate transaction. I do at least 2 sometimes 3 transactions when I shop at Walgreens.

Here is an example of a RR  deal transaction:

Walgreens is offering a $2 RR when you purchase a bottle of Listerine Mouthwash Buy 1 Listerine Mouthwash: $2.99

Pay: $2.99

Receive: $2.00 RR

Cost ONLY $0.99 after RR

*Now lets say you had a $2.00 off coupon for the Listerine. You can use that coupon and pay ONLY $0.99 for the Listerine and get back a $2 RR making your purchase a $1.01 moneymaker :)

Coupon Q&A

Is a Coupon Clipping Service really worth it?

Honestly it depends on the coupon. If it’s a Buy 1 Get 1 deal or if you would be getting the product for FREE after the coupon then yes I think it’s worth it to pay a few bucks to save so much in the long run. I’ve never purchased coupons from a clipping service, but that’s not to say I won’t. For example Walgreens has finish dishwasher packets on sale this week - Get $1.50 RR wyb (when you buy) Finish 20 ct at $3.49 and i have a coupon from my SS (Smart Source Insert)  1/02  for $2.25/1 Finish Product. So I’ll end up getting the finish for FREE. In this type of situation if I didn’t have that $2.25 coupon and if I needed dishwashing detergent then yes I would totally pay for a coupon ;)

Also what other sites do you recommend?

I like to frequent sites that do match ups for stores that i visit on a weekly basis. I Heart Kroger, Wild For Wags, Totally Target and I Heart The Mart are a few of my favs to frequent to look at match ups :)

How did you get started?

About a year and a half ago my husband and i were talking about ways we could bring extra income into our family and me still be able to stay home with our son. I have always enjoyed bargain shopping and helping people find the best deal possible and I’m pretty computer savvy (not near as savvy as my husband lol) So he asked me if I wanted to start a blog. I wasn’t exactly sure how we could make money off of a blog and then he told me about affiliate links. I’ll make a seperate post about this a little later in more detail but basicly affiliate links are links I can post on my blog to products or coupons and if people click on them and use them then I’ll get a very small comission. So if you’ve clicked on one of my links and printed a coupon I posted or purchased an item I THANK YOU so so much for helping to support my family! It’s not a whole lot of money but hey every little bit helps and I LOVE that i’m helping contribute! Yes I contribute in other ways as well, staying home with our son is one of them :)  but I like the idea of contributing monetarily as well. lol Ok so i’m getting off track, anyway he set everthing up and Brooke’s Bargaisn was born!  After I started posting deals I got more and more into couponing! I saw all these great deals people were getting and how they were cutting their grocery bills in half and I got excited! I thought hey I could do that too. So I started clipping coupons and doing my match ups every Sunday. With a two year old it’s a little hard to do match ups anymore lol so I tend to go to the sites I listed above and they are great to do the match up for every week in that particular store.

What do you do every week in order to prepare for your shopping trips?

I actually asked for a Sunday newspaper subscription for Christmas ;) So now that i don’t have to run to town every Sunday and buy a paper it’s wonderful!! After we get home from church i’ll sit down and do my match ups and decide what we need for the week. I’ll ask myself 1.) What are we running low on? Contact solution, toothpaste, toilet paper etc 2.) What are we going to eat for the week? I’ll make a meal plan and go from there ;) I make my meal plan AFTER i look at the sunday paper so i can plan my meals according to what’s on sale that week.

How do you make sure you are actually saving and not just using coupons to use them?

To be honest I was really really bad about this in the beginning when I first started couponing. I thought if I had a coupon for something then I needed to buy it. I’ve learned you ONLY buy what you truly need or think you’ll need. (I like to plan ahead, if I think i’ll use something in the future and it’s on sale and I can get it FREE or close to it then i’ll go ahead and get it.) For example the children’s flu medicine I bought today-we really didn’t need it. But..it was on sale for $8.99 down from $14.99 and I had a $2.00 off coupon making it only $6.99+ I got $8.99 back in RR (Register Rewards) to use on my next purchase. So i was able to use the $9 RR I got back to purchase 2 packs of diapers for ONLY $0.67 before tax!!!  I got the diaper so cheap b/c they were on sale for $6.99 a pack + I had (2) $2.50/1 huggies manufacturer coupons I was able to stack with my $9 RR! ( You CAN use Register Rewards and Manufacturer coupons together! It’s clearly stated in Walgreens Coupon Policy) So yes I sometimes do buy things we may not necessarily “need” but if it ends up savings me money then I think it’s worth it.

Thanks to Amber for all the great coupon questions! If anyone else has any other questions I’d love to answer them!! Just shoot me an email: Brooke @ brookesbargains.com (take out the spaces)
