Couponing 101-Coupon Jargon

Coupon Jargon-Are you confused by all the coupon jargon or not quite sure what something means?

Sometimes you’ll see me use abbreviations in my posts. We couponers refer to this as coupon jargon.

Here is a small list of the abbreviations you’ll see me use from time to time.

  • RR - Register Rewards for Walgreens stores is a coupon you get back after a purchase to use in the store on ANYTHING, it’s like FREE Money!!!
  • ECB – Extra Care Bucks for CVS stores is just like RR. You can use them on ANYTHING in the store!
  • MM – Moneymaker (after using coupons and getting back store rewards like ex. RR you will make money on product)
  • OOP – Out of Pocket
  • MFG – Manufacturer’s coupon (as opposed to a store only coupon ex. Walgreens or Target)
  • CF – Cellfire loadable coupons-You can load these ecoupons to your shopping card ex. Kroger Plus Card.
  • RP = Red Plum insert in newspaper
  • SS = Smart Source insert in newspaper
  • GM = General Mills insert in newspaper
  • PGE – Proctor and Gamble loadable ecoupons
  • P&G – Proctor and Gamble insert in newspaper
  • ETS – Excludes Travel/Trial Size
  • IP = Internet Printable coupon
  • 01/11- Date the coupon was found in the newspaper
  • $3/2 – $3 off 2 products
  • TQ – Target store coupon
  • WYB – When You Buy
  • OYNSO – On Your Next Sale Order
  • B1G1 – Buy One, Get One free (same rule applies to B2G1,etc)
  • Catalina – A check-out coupon that prints out at the register after you pay (often times when you buy certain products) that is good on your next transaction.  Kinda like Walgreens Register Rewards and CVS Extra Care Bucks.

It “Pays” to shop at Walgreens!

So I went on my very first run to Walgreens today with my coupons in hand and this is how it went:

I got all that you see above for FREE and this is how I did it:

Transaction # 1

Listerine Whitening Mouth Wash $5.99-$3 walgreens in add coupon-my $2 manufacturer coupon=$0.99

(I have a $10 rebate for the Listerine Whitening)

Gillette Fusion Pro-Glide Power Razor $9.89-$4 manufacturers coupon=$5.89 or $0.89 after RR

(I got $5 back in Register Rewards)

Nivea Active 3 Men’s Body Wash $5.99-$3 manufacturers coupon=$2.99 or FREE plus $3 money maker after RR)

(I got $6 back in Register Rewards)

Subtotal after coupons: $9.89

Plus $1.46 (7.75% sales tax)

TOTAL $11.33 PLUS $11 in Register Rewards

*After Register Rewards I got all three products for $0.33

So my 1st transaction you can look at one of two ways: I got the razor, body wash and mouth wash for $0.33 after Register Rewards (free cash you get to spend on your next purchase) or I paid $11.33 out of pocket. BUT here is where the deal gets SWEETER I have a rebate to get $10 back on my Listerine Whitening purchase! So after I get the $10 back from that I will still have gotten all this for $1.33 with $11.00 to spend the next time i go to Walgreens!

Transaction # 2

Neutrogena Age Shield Face Block SPF 70-$8.99-$2 manufacturers coupon=$7.00

Neutrogena Age Shield Face Block SPF 70-$8.99-$2 manufacturers coupon=$7.00

Neutrogena Combination Skin Moisturizer $7.49-$2 manufacturers coupon=$5.49

Plus my 2 filler candy bars 100 grands for $0.39=$0.78

Minus the $11 in Register Rewards I earned from my 1st transaction

Plus $1.97 sales tax

TOTAL: $11.23 and I got $10 in Register Rewards to use on my next trip to Walgreens!

* So after Register Rewards I got all three neutrogena products for $1.23
